The history of Margarete Steiff Gmbh began in 1880 when the first Steiff animal was created – an elephant made out of felt. The legendary Teddy Bear followed in 1902. Steiff animals have been giving pleasure to children (and adults!) for over 125 years, and the “Button in Ear” has established itself as an international trademark since it’s invention over 100 years ago.

Today each Steiff product is still distinguished by the characteristic “Button in Ear” bearing the name Steiff and a tag made of woven yellow fabric. Limited collector editions and valuable replicas, on the other hand, are identified by tags made of white fabric.
